The Holy Infant of Atocha is a Catholic image of the Christ Child popular among the Hispanic cultures of Spain, Latin America and the southwestern United States. It is distinctly characterized by a basket he carries, along with a staff, drinking gourd (He used the gourd to carry water, and a basket of bread that he fed to prisoners who were thirsty and hungry) and a cape to which is affixed a scallop shell, symbol of a pilgrimage to Saint James.

El Santo Niño de Atocha es una imagen católica del Niño Jesús popular entre las culturas hispanas de España, América Latina y el suroeste de los Estados Unidos. Se caracteriza claramente por una canasta que lleva, junto con un bastón, una calabaza para beber (Usaba la calabaza para llevar agua y una canasta de pan que alimentaba a los prisioneros que tenían sed y hambre) y una capa a la que se adjunta un concha de vieira, símbolo de la peregrinación jacobea.

Thou art the powerful Saviour of all people,
protector of the invalid and
almighty doctor of the infirm.

Holy Infant, we honor Thee and entreat Thee.

[Here say three Our Fathers, Hail Marys, and Glory Bes to God.]

To remember this day I pray that Thou wilt answer my requests.
Holy Infant of Atocha I ask Thee with all my heart to assist me.
Please be with me in thought and spirit when I find peace,
and that Thou wilt be with me in the Heavens of Bethlehem.

Tú eres el poderoso Salvador de todos los pueblos,

protector de los inválidos y

Todopoderoso médico de los enfermos.

Santo Infante, te honramos y te suplicamos.
