St. Aloysius was born in Castiglione, Italy. The first words St. Aloysius spoke were the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary. He was destined for the military by his father but by the age of 9 Aloysius had decided on a religious life, and made a vow of perpetual virginity. To safeguard himself from possible temptation, he would keep his eyes persistently downcast in the presence of women.  When he was 18, he joined the Jesuits, after finally breaking down his father, who had refused his entrance into the order. He served in a hospital during the plague of 1587 in Milan, and died from it at the age of 23. The last word he spoke was the Holy Name of Jesus.

He is depicted with his eyes focused on the cross, and holding lilies as a symbol of his virginity.

Estaba destinado al ejército por su padre, pero a la edad de 9 años, Aloysius se había decidido por la vida religiosa e hizo voto de virginidad perpetua. Para salvaguardarse de posibles tentaciones, mantendría los ojos persistentemente bajos en presencia de mujeres. Cuando tenía 18 años, se unió a los jesuitas, después de que finalmente derribara a su padre, quien le había negado la entrada en la orden. Sirvió en un hospital durante la peste de 1587 en Milán y murió a la edad de 23 años. La última palabra que pronunció fue el Santo Nombre de Jesús.

O Saint Aloysius, adorned with angelical manners, although I am thy unworthy servant, I recommend to thee in an especial manner the chastity of my soul and body; I conjure thee, by thy angelical purity, to commend me to Jesus Christ, the spotless Lamb, and to His most holy Mother, the Virgin of virgins. Preserve me from every grievous sin; never suffer me to sully my soul with any impurity; whenever thou seest me in temptation or danger of sin, ward off from me every impure thought and affection, and awakening in me the remembrance of eternity and of Jesus crucified, imprint deeply in my heart the sentiment of the fear of God. Inflame me with divine love, in order that by imitating thee on earth, I may merit to enjoy God with thee in heaven. Amen.

Oh San Luis, ataviado con angelicales modales, aunque soy tu indigno servidor, te recomiendo de manera especial la castidad de mi alma y cuerpo; Te conjuro, por tu pureza angelical, a que me encomiendes a Jesucristo, el Cordero sin mancha, ya su Santísima Madre, la Virgen de las vírgenes. Presérvame de todo pecado grave; no permitas nunca que ensucie mi alma con ninguna impureza; siempre que me veas en tentación o en peligro de pecar, aparta de mí todo pensamiento y afecto impuros, y despertando en mí el recuerdo de la eternidad y de Jesús crucificado, imprime en mi corazón el sentimiento del temor de Dios. Inflámame de amor divino, para que imitándote en la tierra, merezca gozar de Dios contigo en el cielo. Amén.
