This mural, on the left wall of the sanctuary, depicts Jesus being taken down from the cross, and being laid in the arms of his mother.

Adam and Eve, eating from the forbidden fruit, are painted in the background.  The peacock in the foreground symbolizes royalty and immortality, gained for us by Christ’s victory over death through his crucifixion.

The artist is unknown.

Este mural, en la pared izquierda del santuario, muestra a Jesús siendo bajado de la cruz y depositado en los brazos de su madre.

Adán y Eva, comiendo del fruto prohibido, están pintados al fondo. El pavo real en primer plano simboliza la realeza y la inmortalidad, obtenidas para nosotros por la victoria de Cristo sobre la muerte mediante su crucifixión.

Lord Jesus,
placed in the arms of your Mother, the image of our Mother the Church!
As we contemplate the figure of the Pietà
we learn devotion to the “yes” of love;
we learn surrender and acceptance,
trust and practical concern,
a tender heart which restores life and awakens joy.

Come, Holy Spirit,
guide us, as you guided Mary,
by the radiant gratuity of the love
“poured forth from God into our hearts
by the gift of your presence!”

Señor Jesus,
puesta en los brazos de vuestra Madre, la imagen de nuestra Madre la Iglesia!
Mientras contemplamos la figura de la Piedad
aprendemos la devoción al “sí” del amor;
aprendemos a rendirnos y aceptarnos,
confianza y preocupación práctica,

guíanos, como guiaste a María,
